WHO AM I?

Steve Walker Ieng MIET, MCMI (click for personal references)

Managing Director of Engineering Business Support Ltd for over 16 years now. 

During this time I have helped Nikon Metrology set up a new supply chain, have been involved with one of Nottinghams Leading Universities on Business Enagement, pro actively looking for innovative and progressive manufacturing company's, whom would benefit from using the University recources. 

Asked by a Universtiry and the Nottingham City Coulncil to find companies interested in being part of a Nottingham Manufacturing Network, which is now set up and going strong.

Working with comapnies on Business Development, Systems, ERP and Business Improvement techniques.

I have a unique set of abilities with a highly developed knowledge of manufacturing systems and techniques along with an empathy with people at all levels. It seems a natural progression to channel my business support and abilities to Coaching and Mentoring whether it be the MD or operatives at shop floor level.

Obtained ILM Level 7 in Executive Coaching and Mentoring qualification

Positive, enthusiastic, helpful, leadership are all attributes I possess. From my past experience in Management roles I have faced and dealt with most production, technical and other works problems in the Engineering industry.

I also use my network of experts and colleagues to assist when there are specific problems that require in depth knowledge to ensure the correct results.

March 2014 to present: Coaching and mentoring, including the ILM Level 7 Diploma (Master’s degree equivalent) in Executive Coaching and Mentoring also qualified in the Thinking Environment coaching with Nancy Kline. Working very holistically with clients. Experience includes leadership workshops, peer-to-peer facilitation, innovation and mindset workshops, and service as Vice Chair of the Nottingham Manufacturing Network.

Additional experience includes four years as MD Designate at Baker Blower Ltd on a consultancy basis, alongside business engagement work for the University of Nottingham.

Currently engaged in a contract with an SME of 150 employees, providing coaching and mentoring for senior managers, managers, and team leaders. This work focuses on developing roles, enabling personal growth, helping individuals identify and remove self-limiting beliefs, and establishing an outward mindset through coaching and group sessions. Plus, a number of other companies from start-ups to to companies with 20/70 employees.

The work also supports individuals and teams in identifying self-deception and understanding how it can affect personal performance and wider company results. Coaching and mentoring provide tangible ROI benefits by improving time management, empowering people to take responsibility for their actions, reducing stress and labour turnover, increasing personal and performance efficiency, confidence and ultimately contributing to an improved bottom line.

Experience also includes developing new cultures using a range of techniques, and encouraging small businesses and start-ups with direction, understanding, organisation, and practical approaches to profitability.

With around 4,000 hours of coaching/mentoring/wellbeing and various workshops including leadership.

Managing Director-12 years

In this role, the owners of the company delegated to me full responsibility for its strategic management and I was the driving force for growth and profitability in the business.

I built a strong Board and also developed a senior management team, encouraging managers to contribute more and take responsibility for their actions, with goal setting in all areas of the business.

Setting strategy and taking capital investment decisions: Restructuring of the manufacturing facility: working enthusiastically and robustly with my management team and dealing with ‘Blue Chip’ customers on a day to day basis.

Acting as the main focus for liaison with major customers delivering reactive, strong customer service and quality partnership.

Modernising the company in many ways; Maintaining ISO 9000 and achieving AS9100 Aircraft Accreditation: introduction of a far reaching computerised Management Information System to the business.

Management Performance Indicators.

Protect the company’s assets and reputation and maintaining its Vision, Mission and Values.

Including Company Secretary for 2 ½ years.

In October 2009, promoted the business to be purchased by new owners and the departure of the previous Board Members with the exception of myself as Managing Director.

Director-18 years

Duties included

Production manager controlling production: Costing: Quoting: Technical Problem solving, Shop floor loading: Controlling major projects from quoting, through manufacture and delivery.

Personal responsibility for managing contracts of up to and beyond £1 million and meeting all deadlines and customer queries.

Day to day running of Company 42 employees - Directly responsible to Chairman - Responsible for the implementation of BS5750 PT2 and subsequent upkeep - Control and Assessment of sub contractors.

Customer liaison: Sales and Marketing

Planning for new plant and equipment: CNC Programming & Technical support

HR Issues

Knowledge of manufacturing and a good understanding of MRP Systems

Planning

Use of various Microsoft applications such as Word and Excel

Excellent communication skills

Maintain planning parameters i.e. batch Qty's, Re-order Qty's etc...

Monitor and maintain stocking policies

Monitor and maintain perpetual inventory activity for module raw materials, WIP and finished stock in order to ensure 100% stock accuracy

Ensure that “Work to” lists are accurate and audited and that works orders/job card is accurate

Provide data required for the S&OP process

Provide information to customer services on product lead-times and WIP

Provide Key Performance Indication as required to monitor the Business
